Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) is a constitutional body mandated to help the state government in matters related to appointment of various Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ jobs. Among others, the GPSC conducts exams for making selection for Goa Civil services, which includes various posts like Dy Collector, Dy SP etc. Other posts for which the selections are made from time to time include the posts of Mamlatdar/Jt. Mamlatdar/Assistant Director of Civil Supplies, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Assistant Directors etc

 

The syllabus for most of the examinations revolve around same topics. So, if a candidate prepares for the civil service exam, he/she can clear other exams with ease.

 

Below are the details about the Goa Civil Service exam, which was recently held.

 

Junior Scale Officer of Goa Civil Service …… 10 posts (5 unreserved, 1 – ST and 4 – OBC)

 

Age limit: Not exceeding 40 years (With relaxation for certain catagories.)

 

Educational Qualification:

  • A valid graduation degree recognised by the UGC.
  • Knowledge of Konkani.
Pattern of Examination

The examination consists of 3 stages, details of which are given below

Stage -1 : Screening Test:

All candidates will be admitted for Computer based screening test. It will help in shortlisting of candidates. Minimum passing marks at the screening test shall be as follows:

  • Unreserved category- 65%
  • OBC Category – 60%
  • ST Category – 55%

Only those candidates who pass the screening test with a minimum of the above percentage in their respective categories will be invited to answer the competitive written examination.

 

Stage -2 : Competitive Test:

The candidates shortlisted by the GPSC on the basis of results of the screening test will be subjected for competitive written examination which shall be of 250 marks as per below mentioned details:

  • Paper-I – (2 hrs 30 Mins)
    • Part A- General Intelligence, reasoning and numerical aptitude – 50 Marks
    • Part B- Basics of Indian Constitution, Governance and Administration – 75 Marks
    • Part C- General knowledge and current affairs – 75 marks
  • Paper-II – (1 hour)
    • Part D- English Comprehension – 50 marks

The minimum passing percentage for competitive written examination will be as under:

  • Unreserved category -65%
  • SC/ST – 55%
  • OBC, Differently Abled Persons and for Children of Freedom Fighters – 60%

 

Stage -3: Interview

The GPSC shall invite five times the number of candidates as against the number of vacancies advertised, for the oral interview purely on merit of the competitive written examination only, with due regard to the policy on reservation. In case there are more candidates securing the same number of marks as the last candidate, all such candidates shall also be called for the oral interview.

The marks allotted for competitive written examination are 250 and for oral interview are 40.

All candidates called for the oral interview should obtain a minimum of 50% marks at the oral interview to be eligible for final selection, subject to them obtaining a minimum final combined marks (competitive written examination and oral interview) as under:

  • Unreserved category – 65%
  • OBC Category – 60%
  • SC/ST Category – 55%
